If you’ve started breaking out you may think it’s just because your skin is acting up. In reality, your acne could also be an indicator of other health problems that are going on inside your body.

Could you be dehydrated?
While you may think having dry skin is a good thing because it means there are fewer oils on your face, it’s really not. When you’re dehydrated your skin tries to compensate by over producing oils. This increases the layer of dead skin cells which can clog your pores and lead to acne.
If you’re dehydrated you’ll typically see breakouts on your forehead and around your ears. An easy fix is to start drinking more water and cut back on drinks that dehydrate you, like caffeine and alcohol.
Could you have digestive problems?

If your acne is concentrated on the bottom of your chin, you may also be bloated and have digestive issues. Adding more fiber to your diet can help alleviate these problems. When you have more fiber in your diet, your blood sugar levels are also more regulated which means you’re not as likely to over-eat. It’s a win-win all around.
Could you have cardiovascular issues?
Breakouts on your nose could signal cardiovascular issues. You may be having trouble keeping your blood pressure stabilized and not even realize it.
Take your blood pressure and see if it’s out of range. If it is you may want to consider maintaining a healthy diet and avoid heavy amounts of alcohol. This will not only keep your blood pressure in check but will also keep acne away.
Could you have a rash or other skin problems?
If you notice that your acne is concentrated around your eyes and mouth, it may not be acne at all. It may be a skin rash called periorificial dermatitis. Using an asthma inhaler is just one of several causes of this type of rash. See your doctor if you suspect this is the case. He or she will likely prescribe a cream to get rid of the problem.

Could you have a hormonal imbalance?
One of the most common things your acne could be trying to tell you about your health is that you have a hormonal imbalance. Breakouts on the chin are the best indicator of this problem.
Women may want to see their gynecologist to determine if there are underlying hormonal problems such as PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). If that’s the case, taking a birth control pill or other medication may help.
